MAINTENANCE: Maintenance intervals for your transmission service vary according to manufacturer but I recommend every 20,000 miles to keep your car in tip top condition. If you have any problems with your automatic transmission, if it goes hard into gears, if it doesn't shift at all or if it shifts at the wrong time, look to the transmission fluid level. If the level is up and the fluid is not burnt, you more than likely have a probably have a problem that you can't tackle yourself. Refer to a transmission shop. Gasket leaks in your automatic transmission occur at the fluid pan connection, while transmission fuel leaks occur at all other connections on the transmission and where the transmission connects to the engine and drive shaft. Have any leaking gasket or seals replaced. Also, check for leaking coolant lines and a worn or disconnected vacuum hose. Replace any leaking coolant lines or worn hose. In order to check your automatic transmission linkage, refer to your owner's manual to see where your transmission linkage comes out or is located under your car. Then reach in and move the selector lever to make sure the lever is moving smoothly and snapping into gear at the transmission. If not, you could have a linkage problem and I suggest you see your mechanic for diagnosis.
